A collection of thoughts, musings and observations garnered from years of ups and downs in the creative industry. It’s about how the world around us impacts our creativity, too—how it inspires us, what it teaches us, and how looking outwards ultimately makes us create better work.
Whether you’re freelance, running your studio or part of agency, the creative industry can feel like a lonely place. The three sections of this book—covering how and why we create; the nature of creativity; and the mind—aim to show that you’re not alone in struggling through not just work problems, but broader issues, too.
There are no shortcuts to brilliance, and hopefully, there never will be. The Work section looks into ways of getting the work that suits you, learning ways how to build trust, tacking creative block, how to be efficient and more.
We are all born with creative ability. The Creativity section touches on how to start fighting excuses and getting work done, the importance of gaining new skills and knowledge, how to find your voice, where inspiration lies, building lasting connections in our work and more.
Sometimes we have to remember that we’re only human. We break easily, and it can be hard to heal. The Mind section comprises simple observations and tips on facing our fears, making time to step back and check in with ourselves, putting the excitement back into our work, learning the importance of more significant meanings and more.
