Why You Should Write as an Artist
As a visual artist, you dedicate countless hours online to showcasing your creations, sharing your vision, and building connections with art enthusiasts. The actual fact, however, is that most of these efforts, with the high tempo of social media, often get consumed in just seconds of one’s glance or a swipe.
But we know behind your work is a story, the inspiration, and a vision. The excitement when you sit in front of a blank canvas, the chaos during the creative process, and the artists who influenced you… And all these unique elements can form the basis of a distinctive and original piece of art writing.
Writing is not only a medium of communication but also a method of thought and self-discovery. When you write about your art, alongside your visual creations, you can also build a stronger digital presence through your ideas. Remember, your story is your art; no one can tell it better than you. This time, grab your pen, and write instead of drawing.
The exhilaration of writing seems enthralling, yet to be stricken by uncertainty with the very first word seems only natural. To help artists scale such hurdles, and guide them through the writing of their first article step by step, we have come up with “The Complete Writing Guide for Artists and Designers“. Begin your writing journey now with this guide.

Why You Should Become a Guest Writer
What can you gain as an artist by becoming a guest writer?
- Boosts Professional Reputation: Publishing articles at a prestigious art platform clearly strengthens your stature in the sector and deepens your reputational roots in the field, going some way to establish you as an artist as well as a “contributor” to the sector, even as a “thought leader.”
- Increase Visibility: Your articles directly reach, by many thousands, designers, artists, and prospective partners in the creative industry. The articles receive powerhouse promotion for an even broader reach, giving strength to your personal website and social media accounts.
- Fair Portfolio Strengthening: Every article published proves to be a strong reference and a permanent reference in your professional resume or portfolio. Featuring in such a reputable publication itself may just hold the door open for future career opportunities.
- Be a Part of a Meaningful and Ethical Mission: Since our founding, we at all costs provide professional support to artists free of charge. We are an independent high-quality, ad-free, readership-respecting non-profit publication. Being part of this mission means you play a very critical role in our efforts, while at the same time contributing in a very direct manner to the health of the creative ecosystem.
- Leverage Community Power, Connect, and Grow Your Network: As a guest writer, you not only become a content producer but also an active member of our global creative community. You get to meet and network with like-minded professionals, broaden your networks, and take advantage of such opportunities.
- Our Payment Policy: Due to our platform’s non-profit and ad-free nature, we are unable to pay a royalty fee to our guest writers at this stage. This collaboration is entirely aimed at supporting creativity and ensuring the free sharing of knowledge. However, we hope that in the future, as a publication that values art and ideas, we will be able to support artists not only with our publications but also by paying for their unique ideas, which will truly make us happy.

Who Are We Looking For as a Guest Writer?
Individuals with a unique perspective and expertise in their fields;
- All creatives, young or experienced, who have something to say.
- Graphic designers, artists, photographers, and cinema professionals.
- Art critics, academics, and curators.
- Amateurs or professionals, with in-depth knowledge of the topics that we concern ourselves with (design, art, photography, cinema) and are capable of expressing it in simple language.
Content Guidelines
Read these basic guidelines carefully before applying.
- Article Title: Use an engaging and original title that best reflects the content of your article.
- Description: A summary of up to 150 characters maximum.
- Topic: For your article, it’s critical that it reflects a fresh approach to our topics (art, design, photography, cinema, music, typography) in a way that will contribute real value to our readership.
- Originality: Content must be entirely your own and must not be available on the internet anywhere else (even if you have written it for your own blog). No AI-generated material.
- Length: There is no fixed word limitation for your articles; however, a length of 800-1500 words is ideal. This allows for deep analysis and presentation of the topic without ‘boring’ the reader.
- Tone and Voice: It is the authenticity of the content that makes it valuable. For this reason, we encourage you to write your views in your tone and through an authentic voice. While doing that, just keep your piece informational, inspiring, and consistent with the overall tone of our publication.
- Marketing Content: Your content should not include any marketing element related to a specific product or service.
- Presenting Your Art and Portfolio: If you are an artist or a designer then you may use your own works or examples from your portfolio although it should be directly concerned with the article. This adds a personal feel to the article while providing case studies to the readers.
- Visuals: Make sure that the imagery you send along with your article is no less than 1200 pixels. You are expected to support your content with visuals you own the copyright to or have a free use license for. The sources of all images used in your article must be clearly indicated.
How to Apply
In the initial stage, please refrain from submitting the full text. Providing us with a summary of your chosen topic will be sufficient.
- Pitch: Email a short but powerful summary (1-2 paragraphs) of the specific topic you want to write about, along with a short biography introducing you.
- Editorial Review: Our editorial team will consider your proposal in the light of our platform’s mission and current publication schedule.
- Writing: After your submission has been accepted, you go ahead and write your content.
- Publication: Articles that pass the editorial process will be scheduled for publication and tagged on all our social media channels and through our newsletter.
- Content Permanence: Your article will stay on our website until whatever date you request for its removal.
